Modern Contemporary home Design for a Coastal Retreat

The Humayun Residence Project is in the centre of Cox’s Bazar. A private three-story vacation home exists. A designer created this home for a family from Dhaka. They want a peaceful place by the coast. This project sits near the world’s longest sea beach. It shows a modern tropical style using local materials and a coastal feel. Our design approach focused on creating open, breathable spaces that connect seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The ground floor has a sunken living room. It has sliding glass doors that reach the ceiling. These doors open to the garden. This design lets in natural light and fresh air. Neutral colours, sandy plaster walls and light teak finishes create a warm, relaxed feel. This matches the beach environment outside.

Local artisans crafted custom-built furniture, including modular seating, built-in bookshelves, and a minimalist dining set. The bedrooms emphasise comfort and simplicity, with sheer curtains, cane ceiling panels, and soft ambient lighting. Bathrooms incorporate locally-sourced stone tiles and matte black fixtures, offering a spa-like retreat. Sustainability was important too. Cross-ventilation, LED lights, and local materials helped reduce the home’s impact on the environment. The Humayun Residence interior is a thoughtful response to coastal living—simple, elegant, and deeply connected to place.
